Knitting Needles On Airplanes?

School's out and summer occur in full swing. And has all the warm weather and sunshine, I have to think about ... well, knitting, I know, I know it seems like heavy ropes can howl just before a warm fire with the wind passing outside your window, but I really look forward to reemerge on the deck with a big, cold glass of iced tea and a summer knitting project. Perhaps a little easier in a beautiful cotton ...

But in the summer is also All about travel. Family vacation, college reunions and just-to-get-away outside the city we all have on the go these days. And for those of you who start in the Wild Blue Yonder, you may be wondering, what are the rules when it comes to knitting and flying these days come from? I think the great thing about knitting is that you can take with them wherever they go, is not it?

So, here's the skinny: after the Transportation Security Administration is not permitted and prohibited items list> Knitting needles and crochet hooks are allowed, either as hand luggage or checked items! This is FABULOUS news, I know, but if you're like me, you can still ask whether this really means that the journey will be smooth sailing through the security checkpoint. The left hand does not always know what the right says, you can fly with you, if you know what I mean ... So, here are a few ideas, things are easier for all stakeholders to:

Before you head to the airport, you print a copyTSA on the list which can be found on the TSA.GOV website. In this way you have some credibility to your story than your own protests and statements like "no, really got, it's ok ... jimmy beans said ..."
Practically in deciding what they bring. Although I personally have had no problems flying with metal needles (I do not know what I do without my Addi turbos to ...) can you opt for wood instead of metal needles. Also, as you can see from the list of TSA, metalWith sharp scissors are not allowed as hand luggage so that they reviewed, or leave them at home (the same goes for swords and spears, guns, just so you know ...). But if you really worried trimming loose ends, I would like to point out that nail clippers are now allowed, and easily double for scissors in a pinch.
Bring to a pre-paid self-addressed mailer that as a last resort, with whom you share your needles home mail. It's easy to say that you could back it out to the car, butlet's face it, you're probably already too late and have no time to run back to the car (it's not like they let you park anywhere near the airport ...), and even that hardly an option when you trying to get home. If you have your envelope, you can in the filling, sealing, mailing, and stared at the well-intentioned but hopelessly-security officers, and on the road in no time.

The main thing is it should be recalled that the vacation is to relax, and always from point A to point Bmay not always be as painless as we hope, the better prepared and more flexible, we can all the happier we are. So, Happy Travels!
