To knit. This is one of the things I appreciate most. And it has such a long history, too.
Now known as a rule, a woman's craft, knitting was originally for men, shepherds done, to be precise, way back when. In literature, there are knitters scattered all directions, must be the most famous madam DeFarge in thicknesses's A Tale of Two Cities ".
Most knitters start with easier pieces, like a scarf or a color vest. They usually keep a fewwell-liked patterns, or stitch types, and seldom venture very far from these.
In this mid-winter time, what with Christmas behind us, and much snow and ice around us, my favorite project of all, comes to mind.
Whether you have a real fireplace, or just one playing on your TV, (ala Channel 11, all you New York people know what I mean), nothing goes with your hot chocolate or steaming tea, and that good book, like an afghan. Lap blanket, bed throw, any way you say it, afghans make Room alive with personality. Sincerely.
Of course you can never have enough good to Afghans. Eventually, they begin to get all the "old", or favorite blanket, the dog or the cat squatting the place, so you always Afghan with a new one!
Before the start of an Afghan project, but there are considerations that you need to decide.
Exactly what kind of an Afghan you want to knit?
Become a block pattern or knit in the round?
How about color and yarnHeight?
Need new stitches or ways of what you already know, learn about your knitting?
Other thoughts aside, these fundamental questions before us with a larger afghan knitting project like to be answered.
You know, the Afghan model all over the place. Not only on the Web, either. Pick up a knitting magazine or a book, and ideas start flying at you. How cute is this, or oh, I love this color, Ithink I'll knit this book.
Afghan knitting a few good notes during the test are:
A. Decide on a pattern. Simple is not it? Wrong! Be sure to check out the "difficulty" listed with each pattern, when it says "Advanced" and you're still a novice, do not try it! Do you really mean what they say, and you will soon lose yourself in knitting terms and instructions that you never had been.
B. If you regularly or circular needles? I thinkEither / Or by me good. Some of you have never used circular, they take some getting used to, but keep a large number of stitches. So if you are a pattern that requires a little more than, say, 75 stitches, you are planning to use circular needles.
C. What yarn will you use? That's a biggie! As a rule, with the Afghans, I think that the focus (on the stitch pattern, it is), and the use of color, you can create a masterpiece with some of the more traditional yarns. I do not recommend the fun fur, orEyelash yarns for the Afghans, nor should either extremely bulky. If you do not mind stiff fingers the next day!
D. What about the membership of yarn? As we go again? Connect the involvement of many different colors, or only three or four, ie, the correct way to thread, so do not leave your work to look too amateurish.
So, you see, the decision to knit an Afghan, will require some advance planning. In the next article we will pick out needles and yarn, and select somenice pattern going on for us! In the meantime, close the post production projects, which now leave. Afghans take some time, but when they are finished, they are beautiful!
